I love the stories about the subversive nativity scenes showing up around the country. Creative resistance to the status quo. I'm happy to say that my local library has White Too Long, The End of White Christian America, and The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy in their collection. I will make a request to staff to purchase your new book, Backslide, when it is available. I know writing a book while keeping up with everyday work and family responsibilities is no small feat. Thank you for keeping us well informed with all the extra material you afford your readers through your books, Substack, and public appearances.
Yes, I didn't focus on it here. But it's worth noting that white mainline Protestants voted about 6 in 10 for Trump every time he has been on the ballot. White Christians who supported Trump in 2024 definitely knew what they were voting for.
Well done Robby and I do love graphs. Some of the numbers I thought were a bit startling as janinsanfran mentioned below. I do love the subversive Nativity scenes that seem to be catching on and am sure there are many more that won't make the news. Thank you for your work, keeping us up to date on the bigger picture.
The new book looks great and one I will be ordering for my bookshelf. I wish you and your family a peace filled advent and a Happy Hanukkah!
Yeah. 40% of Americans having an even partly favorable view of Noem's bunch is not encouraging. I looked for you at AAR-SBL last month! Hope your book's going well.
Your poll is flawed by its lumping of all mainline protestants together. There are significant differences between denominations. My denomination is quite progressive and I object to it being lumped with all other "mainline" (whatever that means) protestant denominations, like the Southern Baptists for example. Do you remember Bishop Budde of the Washington National Cathedral and her comments directed at Trump during a state funeral? I believe it was President Carter's. She is a leader in my denomination. Perhaps you should get around and attend some services at all of the "mainline" protestant denominations and observe for yourself. You are welcome to attend our services in person or via Facebook live if you don't want to travel to Hawaii. Let me know and I'll send you the link. In person would be better though. All are welcome.

Thank you so much!
I find the attitudes you find among mainline Protestants about immigration and Trump pretty depressing. My people aren't doing as well as we might.

I did notice that and it was disheartening.

The numbers are upsetting. I find in my 95yo dad more concern than the 70+ yo who have both been registered Republicans. Thank you for sharing.

Alas, because of the book deadline, I missed AAR for the first time in two decades. Hope to catch you next year!
