Thank you for this. I will add Jennifer’s words to my Holy Week meditations. It may have been the crowd who yelled “Crucify him!” but it was the high priests, with their lust for power and fear of change, who set up the scene. Jesus, who must have looked more like Kilmer and Jennifer than me and my white family. Jennifer’s words remind us that his core message was about love - of God, and creation, and neighbors, all neighbors.
So many parallels to Christ’s passion in this persecution of the just man—Kilmar Abrego Garcia—but I hadn’t thought of the Oval Office performance of Trump and Bukele, yet, as part of that until you brought it on to my ”screen.”
They are the Pilate-Herod actors. “You decide. No, you.”
Yes, saw that on Diana Butler Bass' Cottage post; from that day on they became friends. Dictators friends with each other because both enjoy oppressing and torturing others. And, now on Robbie's 'Passing the Buck' take. Each a facet which brings Holy Week alive in 2025. Thank you!!
Thank you Robbie for writing and sharing this. To my dismay, the comments on the video were simply disgusting. I usually don't read them, and these I only glanced at a few but they were all negative. Turned my stomach frankly. You suppose these folks maybe miss the whole point of what happened? Is it too much to ask for a quiet Passover and Holy Week. Again, thank you. You are so appreciated.
Fortunately, didn't read the comments. Most likely from so-called Christians who now believe empathy is a sin. Who could not have empathy for Jennifer? Or, how can such 'Christians' have empathy for Jesus and not for Jennifer/Kilmar.
Thank you, for calling the current pattern as evil! This morning, as I walked to work (I'm a Lutheran pastor) I was thinking about current events and that is precisely the word that came to mind, evil. I've dealt with people suffering from the Borderline Personality Disorder and dealing with the last one's behavior took took me as close to evil as I ever wanted. That's where reading M. Scott Peck's book, People of the Lie helped! Peck tells some very scary accounts to be sure. Just so unbelievable sad we are actually living it!
Oh, yes, read People of the Lie ages ago. Had never thought of it again til you mentioned it. Yes. The parents who give their son a gun for Christmas or his birthday. Unthinkable then, not now.

And who are 'the high priests' today?

Well said Carol, I agree.

Thanks for this and the Convocation Unscripted. And the James Cone likening of the lynching tree and the cross. Thank you for calling out the 'evil'.
